3 Places to See and Be Seen in Style this Fall

So now that you will undoubtedly getting noticed by the crowd with your attire, where are the best places to go? Here are 3 places you should attend.

For the fashionable, modern man, dressing for fall means more than just adding extra layers and swapping leather shoes for boots. In fact, even if you live in a warmer climate, there's one important reason to focus on your fall fashion this year: holiday parties.

This season is your chance to shine, especially if you've invested in high-quality designer shirts and tailored suits that you never get a chance to wear. Bright colors, shiny metals, and impossibly soft fabrics are always appropriate this time of year, but if you really want to make the most of your wardrobe, you should know how to dress for each occasion.

1. Office Parties

Some businesses throw ugly sweater parties right in the office; others rent lavish venues and let the cocktails flow. There's also a difference between inviting spouses and welcoming entire families for the shindig. Make sure you know what kind of party you'll be attending, and then bring your A-game.

For a black-tie holiday party, you can choose between a tuxedo and a dark, tailored suit with a white dress shirt and a dark tie. If it's a little less formal than that, a dark red button-down shirt is a great choice, and sometimes a tie is even optional. If your workplace keeps it casual, you should still take a step up from your usual office attire. Cuff links and a silk pocket square will elevate your typical suit jacket combination, or you can inject humor in the form of a tie with a holiday pattern.

2. Family Feasts

Will you invite your extended family over - or visit one of them - for a traditional holiday meal? If it's on a major holiday, you can get as formal as you want, especially if you're playing host. However, you'll be doing a lot of sitting around, so pick something comfortable like a cashmere sweater. For less traditional dinner parties, bust out your favorite pair of jeans and pair them with a festive double-collar dress shirt or a bright plaid button-down with greens and reds or blues and whites.

3. Cocktail hours

If your friends and neighbors like to gather for hors d'oeuvres at the end of the year, pretend it's your one and only opportunity to showcase your personal style. Don't age yourself by falling into the blazer-and-sweater-vest trap. Darker hues like deep purples and blues offer a sophisticated but festive color scheme. If that's not your style, you can always spice up the appetizers with playful details like a bright green luxury dress shirt with metallic silver threading.
